Diary written by a midshipman from the Australia Station, on the ship Royalist. A voyage to Pitcairn Island to investigate and try a murder. The author describes the voyage to Suva; weather; picking up the Commissioner of the South Pacific who was to try the case; travel to Varau, Tonga; describes the island, relations with the natives; to Raratonga and then to Pitcairn Island. He describes the island; the people; climate; government; school. The murderer condemned to hang, and taken back to Fiji.
